BOO!

Last week while I was on Fall Break, I got to enjoy some quality craft time.
And, I got to enjoy it with a friend. Even better.
So, I wanted to show you guys our cute Halloween craft (before Halloween is over).

We had been searching like crazy for Halloween crafts on Pinterest prior to fall break and decided on one like this so we could break out the mod-podge.
However, the mod-podge turned out to be a bad idea when I dropped the bottle on the floor while trying to put the cap on.  It splattered all over my floor and jeans and I now have these lovely large white streaks all across my super-faux hardwood floor. But now, everytime I see them, I am reminded of the super-fun memories of our craft day! Too much? Yeah, probably.

Okay, so, if you want to have your own super-fun craft day and mod-podge adventures, then here's what you need:
  • Wooden letters (what I used) or chipboard letters (what R used) - we spelled "BOO" but you could also do "EEK" or anything else really. We kept it simple.
  • Mod-podge (we like the matte kind)
  • Halloween scrapbook paper
  • Paint (colors that match your paper)
  • Paintbrush, x-acto knife or scissors, and a pencil
  • Sticker embellishments

 What you do:
  • Paint your letters
  • Trace letters upside down on the opposite side of the paper that you want to show
  • Cut letters out with x-acto knife (You can also use scissors, the x-acto knife just gives cleaner cuts)
  • Brush a layer of mod-podge onto your letters and position the paper letters on top.
  • Brush a layer on top of your paper. (I always let that layer dry and do another one)
So excited

Hard at work

R's almost finished letters

Will You Be My Bridesmaid?

I told you guys in a past post that I had my first wedding project to show you.
And I do. I'm just slow
So for my first wedding project
....drum roll please....
I made cards to ask my bridesmaids
Okay, not really that exciting, but I wanted to do something a little more special than asking via facebook or text message.  Not to mention, we all like snail mail these days.

All I used was some scrapbook paper, ribbon, and little paper flowers you can buy at a craft store.
I also thought it would be cute to make the cards "propose" to them.  I found some really cute, cheap bow rings at Forever21 and the fact that they were bows meant I couldn't pass them up (because I am obsessed with bows and there will probably be bows everywhere at my wedding.)

Oh, and they all said YES
Only 352 days to go! :)

Special Delivery

This weekend was the Special Delivery Weekend for any medical students interested in Obstetrics and Gynecology looking for shadowing and/or hands on experience
If you didn't already know, OBGYN is high on my list of what I may actually do one day
So, I obviously signed up for one of the slots as fast as I could

Around 9 am this morning, I had the opportunity to deliver my first baby
A precious, healthy, slippery, little baby boy
To say that it was amazing, or awesome, or amazingly-awesome is simply an understatement

To know that there is a child that I helped bring into this world and was the first to hold is an absolutely indescribable feeling

Little River Canyon

Today, the fiance and I took our day trip up to Fort Payne, Alabama to Little River Canyon.
Here's a little recap of our day:
We spent the day driving along the scenic route overlooking the canyon.
There were a bunch of spots along the way to park and take pictures of scenery, as well as, several hiking trails that led down to the water.
We decided to do the first trail we came to - Beaver Pond Trail.  It was supposed to be an easy 1.8 mile trail taking us down to the water; however, we never made it. We ended up walking in one big circle fighting our way through tree branches and spider webs.  So back to the car we went.
The next trail we came upon was only a 0.1 mile trail one way, but it KILLED us. I'm talking sweating, legs burning, can't breath, heart-is-going-to-explode kind of feeling.
When they say steep and rugged, they are NOT kidding. It was straight up the whole way back to the car.
After that, our legs had had enough, so the rest of the scenic drive was spent doing just that - driving (and stopping to look out and take pictures.)
At the end of the drive there was one more easy trail and we decided to suck it up and walk the 0.9 miles.  By the time we had made it, we heard thunder and started speed-hiking back to the car.
On our way out we stopped to enjoy some Sonic for a late lunch (did I mention we forgot to bring food for a picnic? oops.)
Regardless, it was a great day, the fall scenery was perfect, and the weather was absolutely beautiful!

If you ever get a chance to make it up to Fort Payne, you should definitely visit Little River Canyon.
Thanks to Eric's dad for suggesting we take this little day trip!

FUN 1 = DONE

Friday marked the end of Fundamentals 1 (my first module) and I survived!
Only 3.75 years to go.
Oh, and did I mention, I'm on Fall Break for this entire week.
Be jealous. I'm hoping it's a week of non-stop fun.
The fun started immediately on Friday night. Some of my classmates and I decided to cookout and carve some baby pumpkins.
Everyone's pumpkins turned out great - except mine
(Mine's not even in the picture)

Saturday, the fiance and I visited the lovliest village on the plains (aka- Auburn)
We tailgated with some friends and watched the game outside of the stadium. We're too broke for tickets.
We stayed with Eric's sister Saturday night and drove home Sunday afternoon.
Sunday night I got to visit my family and partake in (almost) weekly card night/dinner with the neighbors. I stayed the night with the fam and headed to the dentist this morning. On a side note, I have no cavities, hooray!
The rest of today I spent shopping with the fiance and we finished the day with some mexican food. Yum.
I actually just looked around today, but I did find a pair of $8 skinny jeans and couldn't really pass that up.
Tomorrow, we will be heading to Little River Canyon in Northeast Alabama for the day to do some hiking and picnic-ing.
That's not all the fun I have planned for this week, but I'll save that for a different post.

Chromosomal Cross-over Pumpkin?

Toomers

I had pretty much forgotten what it was like to have free time.
And, I ALMOST feel bad for all you kids at work or school this week. :)
What's something fun you've done lately?

Halloween Countdown

I know I told you guys I had a wedding project to show you soon, and I do.
But first, I want to show you my Halloween countdown.
Have you ever seen/owned (my family owns some) those calendar blocks where you change the numbers everyday?
You know, like these

Well, I decided to take the concept and change it into a countdown for my second favorite holiday
HALLOWEEN

I used:
2-2"x2" unfinished wooden blocks
A piece of scrap wood for the bottom
Black paint and paintbrush
Scraps of Halloween themed scrapbook paper
Mod Podge
My Cricut and the Jubilee cartridge
(I didn't use the acrylic sealant that you see in the picture, oh, and that cheese dip jar you see is actually homeade mod-podge - found here)

Steps:
First, I painted all of the wood black
Second, I measured out 2"x2" squares and mod podged them to the blocks
Then, using my Cricut, I cut out 0,1,2,3,4,5 for the first block and 0,1,2,7,8,9 (9 doubles as a 6) for the second block
I also cut the word "countdown" for my bottom piece of wood
Lastly, I mod podged the numbers and letters to the wood
(Since most people don't own a Cricut, you can always use stickers for the letters and numbers)

Final Product

There are now only 27 days left until I can scarf down as much candy as possible before going into a sugar coma! :)
