Sunflower Cuppycakes

So, last Thursday was my baby seester's 19th birthday party and seeing as her favorite flower is sunflowers and how she knew that I knew how to make sunflower cupcakes, she undoubtedly asked me to make these for her sunflower themed birthday party. And obviously, I was happy to oblige, because I love my sister dearly making cupcakes. :)

Also, that platter was her actual birthday present
I thought it was rather fitting

I think I ended up making approximately 40 sunflower cupcakes and it only took a good FOUR HOURS to make them. Haha.  I rather enjoyed it though (except for the fact that our air conditioner decided to quit working that day so I spent those four hours trying to keep the icing from melting). Hopefully that never happens again.

My lovely sister with her cupcakes :)
(Although, this was actually taken the first time I tried making sunflowers)

French Toast and Bacon Cupcakes

So like I've said before, I LOVE cupcakes. And, seeing as cupcakes are becoming increasingly popular, there are all kinds of new cupcake recipes being shared in the blog world every day.  For example,
the french toast cupcake

I have been intrigued by this recipe for over a month now and last night I decided to be brave and attempt to pull it off.  And let me just say, I am so glad I did. They are fantastic.
I used the recipe from the website above

But I decided to use this icing
Notice the maple extract in the picture
I actually used regular pancake syrup instead
Words can't describe how amazing it tastes

Mom enjoyed them :)

Here's my final product
The bacon is a nice touch because it adds a little salty to go with the sweet

Now go make some and enjoy!

Father's Day

Happy late Father's Day to everyone!

So this post was supposed to go up yesterday; however, the day was super busy and I never got around to it.  The family and I spent all day at Barber motorsports watching the motorcycle races for Father's Day.  While it was super hot, it was also a lot of fun and I think the padre really enjoyed it. We sat in the grass and ate subway sandwiches and sunchips while we watched motorcycles zoom by and a few people wreck and smash into the concrete. (I know that's why most people go, but personally, I would rather no one crash. It looks way too painful.)

Before the races we spent time walking around getting autographs from the drivers. My sister got her picture with one of the drivers who kept getting passed and come to find out, that guy ends up winning one of the races. Pretty cool.

What did you do for Father's Day?

Dad and I during Christmas Break 2007
Hmm, I think I should get some updated pictures of just the two of us.

Allow Me To Introduce Myself

Kayla Breanne Starling is my name. I am an Auburn University graduate and less than 2 months away from beginning my journey as a medical student.  Also, I recently became engaged to my high school sweetheart (going on 8 years now) giving me the reason to also become my own personal wedding planner.

I am a native of Tennessee and currently live in Alabama. I love sweet tea, rain showers, running, napping, kittens, making cupcakes, eating cupcakes, watching movies, and so much more.

I am obsessed with anything and everything craft related and nervous that once I start school, all time for crafting will disappear. Hence the reason for this blog.  My hopes are that this blog not only helps me vent about the stress that is sure to come in med school, but also that it helps keep me motivated to make time for the things that matter to me outside of school and keep me sane: aka, crafting and wedding planning! So that's what this blog will focus on. I'm not great at making up my own crafts but will do just about any DIY tutorial that I come across, so if you think you have seen something that I post in the future somewhere before, you probably have.  No worries, I will link back to the original as long as I can. Any comments are encouraged as they will keep me motivated and inspired. :)
